As with your head shot, your dance portfolio images probably won’t land you a role on their own, but poor images could cost you the casting and the chance to audition.
Like a showreel, dance portfolio images are an investment in your career. Capturing a great dance image can take time, so we don’t rush our sessions. Achieving the final image takes time and patience, but to make it easier we transfer images to the studio computer as we shoot so we can periodically review the shots as we go (letting you tweak your moves). That’s so much better than looking at a postage stamp size image on the back of the camera and you’ll leave the studio confident that you’ve got more than enough great images to pick from.
We apply the same approach to dance shoots as we do with head shot sessions and aim to deliver a relatively small number of great shots (we’ll undoubtedly shoot lots though, but you don’t need the dross). Above a small number, quantity doesn’t matter – it’s the quality that counts. If you’ve got the stamina, we can do quantity and quality, but you just need a small selection of very strong images (anything less than a great image in a portfolio just dilutes the impact).
Even if you are a great dancer, poor photography won’t do your abilities justice. We don’t give you anything but our best work on the day … and we’re very confident our best will do your abilities justice (but we can also be honest that there will be lots of images that won’t make the grade – that’s just the nature of shooting dance images).
We don’t aim to be cheap (or compete on price), but we’re not unaffordable for something as important as an image that supports your career. Packages start with a two-hour portfolio session (including three images) at £150 (most will add a few extra images) and there are half and full day options with correspondingly more images.
We don’t aspire to be just average – you shouldn’t either.
