Our good friend Greig (Different Light Photography) offered to take my portrait a while ago and I’ve repeatedly ribbed him about not actually doing it ever since. He eventually capitulated after my maternity portrait session with his friend Tracy. He came with her (but hid during the shoot – friendship only goes so far!) and then took the opportunity to shoot my portrait while we still had everything setup (using my camera!). I’m not sure if the suggestion that I ask Trevor Yerbury to shoot my portrait instead was what clinched it (or maybe it was because he was staying for dinner?), but this is the result.
Being the subject of photographs isn’t my comfort zone, but I’ve realised and accepted that it is a necessary evil. The thing to remember is that forcing it doesn’t work – it doesn’t need a cheesy smile and you don’t have to do unnatural things that make you uncomfortable to get a decent portrait.
I’ve needed a new portrait for a while – I’m delighted with this one.
Now I need to find something else to give him a hard time about 😀
