Much of my business comes from word of mouth and referrals – Lisa is a friend of Leona and having seen the photographs of Leona and Scott’s baby Ruby, she wanted me to photograph her baby Andi.
Normally I’ll visit a client’s home to photograph a baby, but Lisa also wanted some family shots too so we decided that shooting in my studio was the easiest option their drive from Penicuik (near Edinburgh) wasn’t as far as some clients will travel.
Daylight from a window is the simplest option when photographing a baby, but December afternoons in wild, rainy West Lothian don’t offer much of that (or certainly not for long enough). These were lit using reflected studio flash – a technique that gives a lovely large soft light, just like soft daylight through a window.
Andi is three months old here – you can see that she’s much more alert and active (which gives great images), but, because she was teething, we also had to contend with catching shots without her hands in her mouth.
It’s great to photograph a baby with both parents – I think it’s obvious that Steve is completely smitten with his baby girl.
I also had a chance to catch a couple of shots with Owen:
And I’m delighted that Steve wasn’t shy about shooting these:
If you like these, your comments are always welcome – and get in touch if you want me to photograph timeless images of your baby too.
