Award-winning dog portraits

Nobody is dafter than Barrie when we have dogs in the studio. It doesn’t take long before he’s on the floor getting to know them. Sessions should take about an hour, but they are rarely that short because he will have made friends and is having fun.

When there are dogs in the studio, the focus is on the dogs and you could be little neglected (sorry, not sorry).

Everything we do is about capturing their character. That’s their character – your dog – and it’s all about your dog.

You will probably book a session based on our portfolio of portraits, but those portfolio portraits aren’t your dog. To be realistic, it’s highly unlikely your dog will reproduce a portfolio portrait you’ve seen and loved. We’ll create different, unique portraits you love of your dog – your dog. We find that within a breed they have some similar traits, but each dog is unique. That’s what we aim to capture – their uniqueness.

Got a nervous dog? Not a problem – Barrie is patient and used to working with rescue dogs – he’ll give them all the space they need and the time to let them settle. Got a mad, bouncy nut job? Barrie is in his element. Got a Mastiff that thinks it’s a lap-dog? Barrie will just have a cuddle when he’s being sat on. Got a pack? Bring them all! If Barrie gets his face or ears washed, it’s probably because he hasn’t done a good enough job on his own (and he has been a big boy for long enough that he should do a little better).

And while we’d always rather it didn’t happen, if your dog poops or pees on the floor it’s not the first time. It won’t be the last time either – it happens, we deal with it – no biggie.

Barrie’s love of dogs shows in the images. He doesn’t get these shots (and the awards they win) by standing back and scowling – he’s down on the floor with your dog and he’ll be enjoying himself.

As usual, there will be a lot of good shots. Even with the less than cooperative dogs (we get some challenges) we always get good shots. We thin them down and then you come back to the studio for your design consultation to show you the best shots – that’s when you pick and order. After that, it’s a matter of retouching and processing the purchased images to our usual exemplary standard and then delivering them to you in the form of our high-end wall portraits and books (all made in Scotland by one of the top European professional suppliers).

Want a family shot with your dogs? We can do that too, but then it isn’t just about the character of the dog, it’s about their connection and relationship with you. If you want that, then it is probably more of a family shoot rather than just a dog portrait session. That’s fine, but we give different advice beforehand if we’re photographing people (just so you look your best too) so please warn us that’s what you want.
